On April 29, 2025, the MED GIAHS project held the “MED-GIAHS Project Tourism Experience Co-Creation Workshop” at the headquarters of the Association of Municipalities of Axarquía – Costa del Sol, in Torre del Mar (Málaga), Spain. The event focused on redesigning tourism experiences linked to the Málaga Raisin GIAHS in La Axarquía.
This workshop is part of the broader strategy to develop a local catalog of tourism experiences connected to the GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems), contributing to the region’s tourism revitalization plan within the MED GIAHS framework. The initiative is aligned with the creation of a Transnational Tourism Valorization Model for GIAHS sites and candidates.
The session brought together key tourism stakeholders from the GIAHS territory—including tourism businesses, public and private sector representatives, local government tourism officials, and leaders of related initiatives. All participants are actively involved in promoting sustainable tourism linked to the GIAHS designation.
The workshop built upon routes previously developed under the VALSIPAM project, which have now been updated to reflect the current context and potential of the region. These efforts are informed by MED GIAHS’s recent analysis of tourism opportunities in the GIAHS area.
Ultimately, the workshop contributes to the development of a local catalog of GIAHS-related tourism experiences, with select offerings to be included in a forthcoming Transnational catalog that will showcase sustainable tourism experiences across Mediterranean GIAHS territories.
